Way too choppy for Kelly!

Captains Log May 26 – It’s was a rather cold morning  but  we  managed  to get up and out  of

Where we would have boarded

bed anyway!  We had  reservations  for the Apostle  Islands Morning  Grand Tour (it’s the  only one  currently  available) at 10 AM, so  we left  plenty  early to get  the best seats.  Well, it was VERY windy  and cold  out and  we checked  in at  the docks where I asked the lady about the motion on  the water.  She  said it was  going to  be pretty  choppy.   Knowing  how ill I get with motion  sickness  we moved  my  ticket  to tomorrow and cancelled Bill’s.  He had an  appoint-ment  at the  Chevy  dealer at  the city  near here  to get  his taillight  and  side  view mirror re-placed.  He called and left a  message to see if he could  move it to the  afternoon so he could go with me in the morning on the tour.

Nice neighborhhood right by the docks

We walked about the dock area a bit and it was cold and only one little gift shop was open.  We had passed the Apostle National Park building so we stopped there.  You couldn’t go inside except to a receiving area where they had a table set up to get your park stamp and a clear barrier between guests and the ranger with an exhibit of the magnets and patches they have for sale.  The building itself was a gorgeous old building that was the original courthouse back in the day.  The town of Bayfield only has 487 year around residents and no schools.  The kids bus to Ashland to school.

We checked out the town which is very quaint and well taken care of and I think a great summer place once it warms up!  Not much is open daily for tourists until the weather warms

National Park Service Building

up a bit.  Our campground was only open a few days before we arrived.  Speaking of campgrounds, we continued to have some issues with the power so they suggested we move to site 11 (which was where we were supposed to be but Bill put us in the wrong site).  So far this site has been fine!

Bill and Lake Superior

With nothing open we headed back to the RV and worked some on our “unappropriated “ days that we set aside for Alaska.  We are also looking at a few places to volunteer for 6 weeks in Oregon.  So will see how that pans out.

A couple from Daytona arrived in the site next to us.  They left in April and have been to 24 states already.  They will be here for a week.  Glad we didn’t plan that long since the weather isn’t agreeing!
