Captain’s Log May 6 - The time to get back on the road again
finally arrived! It’s been a long winter
for me. On top of Covid striking Bill
and I in November, I had pretty serious ankle tendon repairs done in January,
then a sinus surgery in February. My
ankle has come a long way but will still be in a brake for extensive walking
until July. Still swells and feels like
it’s not really a part of my body, but it works pretty good!
We managed to get loaded, unloaded and put mostly away a
little earlier than we had expected. We
managed to leave at 9:45 for our first stop, Suwannee River Bend in Old Town, FL. We met up with 4 couples from our camping
group and will be here 3 nights relaxing and enjoying time with our friends.
Fortunately, the weather Gods were good to us as we didn’t
get rained on but a sprinkle when

we hooked up and unhooked. The drive was a little worse as there was
some nasty rain happening. We got our
normal spots along the river with a couple of shelters perfect for the 10 of
us. We were the last to arrive as some arrived
a couple of days early and they didn’t have to do all the packing we did!

Once everyone was settled in we gathered for a great visit
and catch up, then re-convened with snacks that we called dinner! The area along the river is plush with
greenery and we had a gator on one the docks beside us. Later a couple of the ladies spotted 2 small
manatees grazing on under water grasses and plants along the coast. That was a nice surprise for us as we see
gators here all the time along with the “jumping” Mullets. We say they fly but they jump and it’s really
difficult to get a photo as you never know where they are going to come up!

on their RVs, and one wife still
works. Our current plans include a trip
to Alaska on
an RV Caravan. Canada has
pushed back border crossings several times so we are now looking at May 21 for
good news. We are alternatives for June
14 or June 21 so we had to set aside a 60 day window. I have us booked from Utah
to Albuquerque
currently so time will tell what we do with those days! The wagon master said he’s pretty positive we
will get a spot if they go. If not, we
go in 2022!
Overall it was a great first
day, with expectations of many more great days!
