Relaxing drive and day!

Captains Log May 22 – Not a terribly eventful day today, and sometimes that’s a good thing!

Heading on to the bridge

Our drive was only about 3 hours north to St. Ignace, MI.  Traffic was light and the weather was good, and those are good things.  Once we hit Mackinaw City we were fogged in.   We  could see a little  of  Fort Michilimackinac as we started across Mackinaw Bridge.  Just a short way on to the bridge we were totally fogged in.  You could not see a thing along the sides but fog.  It was slow driving as at the highest level of the bridge it was like being in a cloud.  I was driving VERY slow as was everyone else.  As we descended it was gradually clearing but we still didn’t catch a glimpse of Mackinaw Island.

Weather at the top

Our campground, Tiki RV, was just a couple of miles around the bend where St. Ignace is located. There are several tour boats and the boats that take the crowds to and from the island.  We did that the last time we were here and for us it’s a one time thing.  Too many people, too expensive to do anything, too many people on bicycles and too muche horse poo on the main roads where the shops are!

I had picked a pull thru spot on my reservation that was long enough to leave the truck hooked up.  It was next to the last spot at the top of a small rise and it was long enough but a challenge to get straight when you have to do it on the first try!

Once we got set up we had lunch and Bill took a book and went out side to read.  It was a really nice afternoon.  I was getting antsy and hadn’t baked anything since we left so I made a batch of 4 Ingredient Cookies.  Bill was VERY happy!  I still have stuff in the freezer but just needed to bake, that’s my stress reliever.

We took a walk to make sure we knew which direction we were going to take on leaving our

spot.  This is a very wooded campground and hilly in some areas and narrow lanes.  We agreed on a route and also checked out some spots we think we would like better if we come here again.

Bill had a nap and I did some crocheting until it was time to get all of the leftovers out of the fridge.  I do have internet here so I plan to  post tonight as we never know what lies ahead.

I was a beautiful day and a quite relaxing afternoon!
