Sunday at Sherando

June 12 – It was another beautiful day out and we expected a huge crowd at the lake.  There was a crowd as other volunteers had to manage parking again but it wasn’t as busy for us as we thought it would be.  Of course if we had more stuff to sell it would have been busier.  We went in to work at 1 instead of 2 since there’s been a bit of controversy about our hours.

I had some issues again with the soda machine but got it back on track.  I think I changed out over 20 rolls of toilet paper in the ladies bathroom and picked up all kinds of clothing tags left in the changing rooms.  I hate to slam my gender, but women are always the worst slobs in the bath houses and rest rooms that we have had the “pleasure” of dealing with as volunteers over the years.  Geez, I’m embarrassed!  They let their kids follow right in their footsteps and obviously no one in the family understands the purpose of 50 gallon garbage can or that you CAN put your water bottles and other trash in them!  So, OK, I’m venting!

I got to tell a guy who I guess can’t read or rather chose to ignore the sign that he had to walk past to get to the beach that said no animals other that service dogs beyond this point, OR the sign before that about all dogs must be leashed!  His huge dog was scaring kids out of the water no less and he was oblivious to it.  He and his lady friend moved to the grass but took their sweet time to hunt up the leash and I gather she didn’t like sitting in the shade so they didn’t stay long after.  Did I feel bad, NADA!

Then as it approached time for us to close I took a bag out and picked up trash, sox, underwear, a towel, a cap, and more that were left all over.  One nice young man said it was sad that I even had to do that and thanked me for volunteering.  It is sad that if we didn’t do it the place would get worse and worse and then the same trashy people would start complaining about it.  What a shame that they teach their children that it’s OK to leave your juice box on the ground with your chip bag and your water bottles.  It’s not like we don’t have 5 trash bins in the area!

Oh well, the worst part of the day was once we closed and balanced the safe wouldn’t open for me to put the daily money envelope in.  So I brought it home and will call the boss lady tomorrow to see about a key or some way to get to what we’ll need come Wednesday.

I finished off a bottle of wine!  Wonder why?
