Time to move on

August 1 – Time to hit the road again!  We thought we would leave around 9 and Emily, our volunteer coordinator was to be to our site about 8:30 but she didn’t arrive until about 9:30.  We had her take our photo in front of the Antietam Creek Campground sign before we left.  She said the new couple didn’t want to spend the night without electricity in case they needed their AC so they were coming this morning.

Poor mama bird
I hadn’t seen the little bird that was building the nest for a while to thought maybe it moved on to another place.  Well, when I went to pull the electric cord from the hole the little bird flew out.  I knew then she must have eggs in there and yes, there were 4 tiny speckled eggs and I felt so bad.  That nest took so much work for that tiny bird.  There was even a piece of snake skin used in it and long pine needles.  We put it on top of the electric box without touching the eggs and told the ranger to let the new people know it was there and to leave it alone.  At least I won’t know if the eggs ever get hatched.  So it was about 10 when we finally got on the road.
Our first stop was south of Winchester at the Loves Truck Stop to fuel up and get Bill a jar of beef sticks.  He likes those much better than Slim Jims.  He made one jar last 7 weeks, so that was pretty good.  We used it as a bathroom stop also since we didn’t plan to stop again until we arrived at our destination.
A bit further down I-81 is New Market, VA and we saw the sign for the Battlefield and Visitor Center.  It looked like a national park but once we arrived we were told it was state run by VMI, the Virginia Military Institute.  We browsed the gift shop and looked at the monuments.  The movie was 45 minutes and then there was the battlefield and we left Molly in the truck so the rest was out of the question.
We arrived and checked in at Small Country Campground in Louisa, Va at 3:00.  We’re about 10 miles off I-64 on the kind of roads I grew up on, windy and curvy.  Most of the people at the camp leave their RVs for the season and come on the weekends.  The manager couple just moved to Small Country from Florida.  We were able to use Passport America for half price and got a pull thru with Direct TV satellite hook up and WIFI.  We are out in the sun but you can’t have everything.
As soon as we arrived and set up we ate so I just made some buffalo dip with veggies later for dinner.  We had a huge rainstorm but then it blew over and the sun came out.  We just chilled the rest of the day.
