A squirrel named Butters

August 11 – After our blueberry pancake breakfast we waited until about 10 to go clean the bathhouse. Bill thought there would be a lot of people still there but there weren't. We had 11 sites to clean and it drags out because they don't all leave by 11 like they are supposed to. So we did them in 3 batches.  My lower back and hip will never be the same.  The raking, mopping and sweeping on big days are going to do me in and Bill’s not looking much better.

We walked down the road and around to the Amphitheatre and back to Loop B.  Next time we will take a bag as we ended up picking up trash along the way.  We stopped to visit Fred and Glenda, the Loop B hosts and then another couple of volunteers stopped by.

Once we got home I sat outside and read, then made some cookie dough that needed to chill. I baked the cookies just before time to start dinner while Bill took a nap. I had wanted to cook over the fire outside as I was making fish, but it kept raining a little on and off and it might be more trouble than it was worth so just cooked our perch inside.  Our bird population is growing and Bill has now named the squirrel, Butters.

Went for a late loop walk and then to the admin office to do email. We took the netbook for Bill and then Kam came on and we video chatted for a while. The connection was not the best but better than nothing.

Tomorrow we have no one leaving so we'll do the bathhouse and head out for the day. I think we will go up the Skyline Drive about 30 – 40 miles and back down another way and into Staunton. The parkway is in 2 parts. The first part is in the Shenandoah National Park and it's rather short, the Skyline Drive. It starts at Front Royal, VA and Ends at Waynesboro, VA. The Blue Ridge Parkway then starts and ends down in NC.
