August 8 – We attempted to get up earlier again today, but it just
doesn’t happen. Neither of us sleeps
very well with the shoulder and back issues so it’s more of a challenge to get
up. The day was overcast from the start,
so most of the campers who were leaving didn’t dally like most days.
Dressed for duty |
After breakfast we did the bathhouse first and then we did 5 of our
sites and Bill went to B Loop to check the 2 sites that were vacating there as
we were covering for the hosts. They did
the bathhouses before leaving for the day.
After resting and reading and having lunch I packed a basket of laundry
and my laptop to head back to the WIFI. Bill
had checked with one of the guys who said it was working great this
morning. Wouldn’t you know I was not
alone? One of the twins (2 sisters are
volunteering and one of their husbands) was there doing 10 loads of
laundry. She was kind enough to give up
the washer that had finished as I arrived and I did get to do my laundry. She was such a talker that it took me hours
to get most done of what I wanted. I
chatted on line some with Kam and posted 3 blogs but she was relentless. I know her life story, her sister’s life
story, her nephew’s life story and her husband’s life story. She was very friendly but I can’t read, type
and listen at the same time. Next time I
see her car I’ll just come back and wait.
I thought I’d only be about 90 minutes and it was over 3 hours!
Bill was so ready for dinner when I got back that the table was set, the
dishes were washed and put away, the carpet vacuumed and the sheets
changed. He said he even walked the
loop. So I cooked some venison and
veggies and he loved his dinner. We went
for a loop walk and it drizzled the whole time.
A teenager reported a broken fountain along one of the trails so Bill
called it in and the guys found it and at least shut it off.
There is a lady who came to the campground as a volunteer who has only 1
arm. You could tell when you met her
that she was different but we only met her once. Then we found that she had been moved to
every position in the campground that she could physically do and everyone who
worked with her said she was impossible to work with. So she was given a letter cancelling her
volunteer contract (we all have one) and told to be gone from the site by 10 pm
before the park closed. Well, she said
she was moving to the non-reserved loop and she’d pay her fee by 10. It was probably 9:30 before we saw her RV go
by over to Loop B last night. Both the
men and the women said she is very difficult to work with. They had to have a law enforcement ranger
come talk to her as she was not accepting that she was no longer going to be a
volunteer here. It’s sad but everyone
can’t be wrong about her. She was still
there tonight.
It continued to drizzle on and off so I got showered and read until our
show came on. Then Bill headed to bed, I
finished this day of the journal and read until bedtime.
