Nice Dinner Out

August 10 – After breakfast we cleaned the bathhouse, then a couple of sites. We are not supposed to take off on the weekends. We did have 16 of our 18 spots taken so we did check the toilet paper again at the end of the day.

Pretty much didn't do much but read and I did laundry and posted 2 blogs. I forgot to take my passwords so couldn't do some of the things on line that I planned.

Osceola Mill
We had dinner reservations for 5:45 at the Osceola Mill Country Inn. A couple of the other volunteers had eaten there and recommended it. It's an old grist mill that is a restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights and a B & B all
Waiting for dinner
week long. They only have 12-13 tables and basically does just one seating at each table but not all at one time. The wife does the cooking, the husband is the greeter and seater and the son and sister in law are the wait staff. They had a threesome singing for entertainment that were pretty good. Older, more relaxing music. I was surprised at the number of entrees on the menu for just 2 nights and one cook. Most was seafood, which was great for me but normally not high on Bill's list. I had lump crab cakes and they were good but not at good as Chef Gary’s!  Bill had shrimp and chicken in a béchamel sauce. He's not usually one for sauces but he said how good it was. Both meals were served with tiny roasted red skin potatoes and steamed pea pods. Bill was impressed that before our meal we were served a lime sorbet to cleanse the pallet.

It took 45 minutes to get to the place. The instructions were kinda sketchy as we went on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but there was no signage. We saw a parked park ranger and asked him and we only had another 2 miles on the parkway and then exit down a really steep curvy road for several miles, turn right and it was along the road. We decided not to go home the same way. We went through Stuart's Draft where we had a phone signal and checked our email and phone messages.

Although we didn't have any rain while we were out, it apparently rained at the campground while we were gone. We heard calls on the radio that some campers were not being responsive to the instructions regarding proper storage of food items in bear country. Some people just won't listen.  We bring in our new regular bird feeder now so Mr. Bear won’t break it.

We watched some TV and read, as usual.
