More walking, more trimming and more WIFI

June 9 – We managed our walk this morning before heading out for shrub duty.  I have learned that we should have started the trimming from the bottom up instead of the top down.  Long story!  We worked 2 hours again and finally were hot and tired enough to head home.  Bill went over to ask for a 6 foot ladder to use to trim the tops and came back with no ladder but a gas power hedge trimmer.  He did what he could and will bring our 2 foot step stool tomorrow to see if that will work.  We figured with a 6 foot ladder we could carry it back and forth across our car on the racks but anything longer would be too long.  Jason, our ranger, said he’d bring a wheelbarrow to use to haul the cuttings into the woods.  We didn’t sign on for that!  He told us to just pile them and they’d be picked up, he never said we’d be the ones to pick them up!  Bill was not happy about that!

After a recovery period and lunch we went to McDonald’s for wifi.  They’re starting to know us there!  We stopped briefly for Bill to get some milk then headed home.

After dinner I sat outside to read and 2 different volunteers stopped by.  Bill never noticed with the TV going and didn’t come out.  We were invited to a breakfast for the volunteers and contract employees on Saturday morning.   Everyone pays their way but it’s just an opportunity to get together and meet those we have not met yet.  The second visitor told us the volunteers were hosting a meal on July 4th at 5 and invited us.  He also told me due to flooding where they normally have the fireworks and band, the fireworks will be at the airport and the band will be in our park.  We work at 8 that night so we’ll hear the band for sure and maybe see the firework out over the lake.

Bill came out for a while and we had 4 deer come look us over.  Two were very young bucks with just little knobs about 4 inches growing.  They were too late for corn as a bigger doe came earlier and ate it all.

I almost finished my book tonight but was getting droopy eyed.
