Train Trip in Skgway

August 4 – Today we had a morning trek scheduled with the group to meet at the train station at 10:30 this morning.  We had a train trip at 11.  It was rather boring as it’s across the river from the road we went on yesterday and heard a lot of the same stuff, but we did get a lot of info about the Gold Rush and where they all came from and how few managed to find gold.  The interpreter was very knowledgeable.  We got to pass other trains and got some great views of the mountains, rivers and waterfalls.  We got to see parts of the original trail up to the Klondike, the original bridge across the river and we had 2 trains pass us on the way up and one on the way down.

Once we got back to town Bill and I had lunch at the Red Onion.  It’s mainly a bar but it is one of the 2 food/bars in town and I think there are only 2 other restaurants.  Lunch was good and not super pricey.

Then we settled into our shopping again.  I had some things I was looking for and I had a question for the store we made a purchase in yesterday that I wanted to ask.  Oh, we bought some cool t-shirts there that at black decals on whatever color t-shirts you wanted and when you get in the light the decals turns to various colors.  They are so cool that Bill and I both got one.

I managed to complete my shopping list and we got back to the RV about 4.  Then we were reminded that we cross back into Canada tomorrow and needed to go online to complete the paperwork AGAIN.  We don’t have WIFI at this campground so I asked Donna if she wanted to go to the library and see if we could use the WIFI there to complete our paperwork.  It was just a few blocks up the road and they were open til 7 so we managed to get the forms all done on line and we will be ready for customs tomorrow.

We had our steamed shrimp for dinner with some homemade coleslaw.  Then Dave came over and went over some things on the RV that we didn’t quite understand how it worked.  We are now much better trained than we were on how to deal with the mountains tomorrow.
