August 6 – Today we left for Watson Lake. We were there earlier in the trip and that’s where all the signs are posted from all over the world. We put a sign up when we stopped here.
The roads were really pretty
nice today so for that I am always thankful.
We left behind Dave and Donna around 9 and the traffic gradually
increased the further we went. That does
not mean 30-40 cars, it means every 20 miles or so you pass a car or 2. There
was work on a bridge that we had to sit and wait for 10 minutes but the drive
was really pleasant. Too bad we didn’t
see any wild animals along the way!
Our group are the only people
in the campground here. It’s not very
big and had water and electric. On the
way in we stopped at the gas station in front of the campground and filled up
for tomorrow. Once we parked and had
some lunch I went up to the store to look for a hot plate. They had ONE 2 burner one for $45.00. So I walked a way to the hardware store to
see if they had a single burner one but they didn’t have any kind. Of course I walked back to the grocery store
and bought the 2 burner and a couple of bananas.
I had taken thin beef steaks
out to thaw this morning to make pickle steaks for tomorrow night so they had
thawed and I set up my new hot plate.
Then Bill and I and several others walked/drove over to the Northern
Lights building where we saw the most awesome movie about the Northern Lights
and what causes them. Too bad it’s much
further north in the wilds of Canada or we would have gone there. It was an excellent movie with nice other
displays.
On the way back we stopped at
the little store for some instant mashed potatoes or real potatoes (which they
don’t have) and I got a 2 pack of instant to go with our pickle steaks tomorrow
night! Canada prices are high but out in
the middle of no where they are super high – I paid ridiculous prices for 3
bananas, a box of instant potatoes. Oh
well, hopefully things will be MUCH better back in the lower 48!
I put my pickle steaks on to
simmer and hopefully they will delicious with our expensive potatoes tomorrow
night. I had a nice salad and wine for
dinner and Bill went to the “meeting” that was announced today while we were
driving. They are ordering pizza for
everyone to announce some bad news I’m sure.
I’m not much on pizza and didn’t want to hear the changes in our schedule
info so I bowed out. At least Bill will
enjoy some pizza! I’m “pre-writing
tonight since we got in early and I have some time.
