July 6 – What a bad day! I will say it wasn’t in the top 3 of bad
days on the road, but I’d definitely put it in the top 10! First due to a power outage at the campground
I reset the clock but set the alarm for PM instead of AM, so we were almost an
hour late just getting up! Then once we
were pretty much ready to go and unhooked the power, the fridge went off
also. Bill called our tech, Frank and he
said it had to be the invertor so while Bill went out to try and find it
outside and try to reset it, I flipped the breaker off and on and then messed
with some power panel that I still don’t understand and the fridge came on! Since diesel has been pretty cheap in the
area we stopped not long after we got on the road and filled up and as we
pulled out onto the road we heard a big scraping sound (never good) and
eventually Bill could see our 3rd mud flap dragging behind the RV in
front of the car. As soon as we found a
place to pull in, we removed it.
Actually a really nice young man came over and offered his assistance
and he got under there and unhooked it.
The day had to get better from there!
I-40 in Oklahoma is no better than it was the last
time we came through 5 years or so ago.
Stuff was flying around and luckily nothing was broken but my wooden
recipe box, but I think I can fix that once we land in Idaho .
We stopped for lunch and later to run the car a while and once more to
switch drivers and finally arrived at Twin Fountains RV Park in Oklahoma City . We stayed here last time and it’s a beautiful
place and close to all you want to see in the city. It’s a little pricy but with Good Sam’s it’s
not quite as bad. Once we parked Bill was
quick to get us plugged in and wouldn’t you know the thermostat on the darn AC
would not come on! We opened the windows
and the 2 exhaust fans in the ceiling and Bill went out for a small electric
fan we carry. It was going to be a long
miserable night! Well, I got to thinking
(I do that sometimes) and it seemed this was what it did once before in TN or
KY somewhere. I had to call the
manufacturer of the thermostat and he told me how to reset it and we ended up
stopping at a Camping World and asked their guy to do it and it worked. So I fished out the wires and figured I couldn’t make it any
worse and left them apart a few minutes as I remembered we did before and
TA-DA, it came on and we have AC. I did
magic marker the parts so I know for sure to put them back the same way I took
them apart. I guess it might have been
the invertor issue, who knows, but as long as it works now is all that matters.
The highlight of the day was
getting the cheapest price ever for us for diesel, $2.399!
We rested a bit and then I made
buffalo burgers on the George, heated leftover baked beans, sliced a tomato and
made a small fruit salad and called it dinner.
I did some work for work and got
my blog all typed and ready to go.
Tomorrow must be a better day!
