Safely made it to Denver!

July 8 – It was a REALLY long day.  We were the first ones camping at Wal-mart to leave, that in itself is an accomplishment for us.  We left at 8:15!

Again the drive was pretty boring and once we got into Colorado it didn’t get much better.  Eventually you get a bit more rolling fields and not all flat farmland but towns and even billboards along the interstate are few and far between.  That’s when you need auto pilot on the RV.  We also gained another hour as the time changed on us.

Lovely travelling weather
We tried to keep our stop times to a minimum so we could get to the campground early and relax before heading out.  We stopped in Limon to fuel up for tomorrow and then headed into Denver.  Geez, the minute we approached the city limits it started raining and traffic was horrible.  I didn’t think it was rush hour as it was just around 3 when we got close.  The weather was gray and misty and traffic was barely moving.  Once we crossed I-25 it lightened up a bit and the weather did also.  By the time we made it to our exit in Golden it had pretty much stopped.

Our site at Clear Creek RV Park was right beside Clear Creek.  They don’t have pull thru

spaces and very few with sewer but we were good for one more night.  We didn’t like having to unhook the car but that was OK too.  We could hear the creek all night and there’s a walking path beside it and people were out in the drizzle walking and walking their dogs.  The campground is literally right in town beside a city park.  When we got off the interstate I was a bit concerned as the streets of Golden are narrow and here we were on the main street and then having to turn without hitting a truck or running over the curb.  Being the skilled driver that I am, I managed to squeak by on both counts!

Rich, Bonnie and Bill
We did rest a bit and showered before Bill’s former student, Rich Reeper came to pick us up.  We went to his home to visit for a while and then his wife, Bonnie and their son went with us to dinner.  Bill really enjoyed reliving some of his coaching in Junior High with Rich.  Some of the kids from those years were his all time favorites!

We didn’t last long once we got home as that hour change was kicking in.
