The good, the bad and the stupid!

July 11 – I think we will be home in just 2 months.  Wow, it’s gone fast!  I went up with Bill this morning and rode the towpath back.  Thought I would beat my time, but no.  I didn’t have the best of days!  Before Bill left the AC was not making the normal sound it makes so we shut it off and turned on the bedroom unit.  Well that one hadn’t been on in at least a year and all kinds of goober came flying out and it was making a rattling noise.   It cooled done fine though.  By the time I got back and turned the regular unit on it was working fine but I just set the thermostat up higher and let the bedroom unit do most of the work.

Moving right along
I was anxious to try out my new heat gun.  Within 5 minutes I burned my finger and it blistered and hurt.  Luckily I had some Burt’s Bees ointment and after a couple of applications it felt much better.  The heat gun does work so much better than the hairdryer but it heats so much that the plastic scraper gets melty and doesn’t stay firm so I found it was easiest to use my nails and could pull up larger pieces.  I did a section as big today as 3 other days together!  It appeared that the sun was going to come over the RV so I pulled down the window shade in the area I was working and it’s held open by a black nylon strap about an inch wide.  Well, I would heat with my right hand and peel with my left and at that time I’d kinda let my heat gun hang to my right and finally realized I had almost melted through the strap!  Geezy Pete!  I had my sewing kit out from 2 repairs I did last night so I brought it out and did one of my McGuyver moves by cutting off one of the extra loops on the strap and sewed it over the area that was almost melted through, so it should be good for a while anyway.

I took a couple of breaks even though it wasn’t terribly hot today.  I was tired of the rattle in the AC so I took my tools up on the roof and took the tops off both units to see if there was any debris that should be removed.  The main unit looked fine but the bedroom unit had some bee nests inside and was rattling like crazy.  I found the problem.  A housing over the condenser was not screwed in on one side so it was vibrating against the copper line.  I didn’t feel like going down to get my container of parts so I McGuyvered again and took the band-aid from my knuckle and wadded it up between the two and it was instantly quiet.  When Bill got home I went back up and screwed the housing in and swept off the roof and the slide toppers.  The roof wasn’t too bad but the puddling in the toppers was getting green.

After Bill had a snack and rested we went out and cleaned our sites early today.  The maintenance guys had come and mowed and trimmed so it looked really nice.  So far we didn’t have any campers for the night.  I started on yesterday’s journal and broke to fix dinner and get a shower.  I have until 9 to get my computer work done before “Burn Notice” comes on.
