July 12 – My day at
Ferry Hill. I arrived right on time and
realized there was no one there but me so I had to rush and open up. We had been told there would be a ranger and
another volunteer was scheduled. I
called Bill and he said the volunteer said he was not going to be there either
today or tomorrow, so we guess it was today.
We didn’t know if the ranger was coming or not. So I was there on my own. I had no visitors until 11 and then had 2
sets and at 1:00 the new ranger, Melissa, arrived. I stayed until just after 2.
The weather never
got really nice out after a long night of rain so we weren’t too sure about our
previous plans to drive to Snyder’s Landing and bike to Killiansburg Cave . Instead we did some work around here. I removed about a foot of decal while Bill
scrubbed some black stains along the top edge of the RV.
After our chores
were done I sat outside to read my book and watch the critters. There is a bird or pair of birds building a
nest in the pin box on our RV. I watched
them repeatedly take chunks of grass, pine needles and sticks back and forth. The bunny was out nibbling on the grass and
there were birds flying all over eating and hovering and eating more. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Bill had planned to
go to a baseball game but it was cancelled so we went to dinner at the Blue
Moon Café in Shepherdstown. We took our
laptops with us and stopped at McDonald’s for some fast internet service. I made a quick stop at Food Lion for salad
mix and milk and we headed home.
