July 7 – It was a
little cooler out this morning so my 3 miles ride back from Lock 38 was not as
bad as my last ride. A little bit of
cool can go a long way! I think it even
improved my time a bit. After I had some
water and a rest I got out my paraphernalia to work on my decal project. It was the same slow going as before so I’d
work a while and break a while. I did a
little more than my first day, but I’m not liking this project. I skinned a knuckle on my right hand so it
gave me an excuse to stop.
I really didn’t do
much else but read and wash the dishes.
I became more industrious in the afternoon. When Bill got home we went out to clean the
sites. I think this was our worst day so
far. Since the campground was pretty
much full we had to clean a lot of the grills.
Most sites only had a little bit of trash that blew away or kids’ candy
wrappers but some people of just pigs.
Glass jelly jars, soda cans and the worst item are those darn juice box
straws covers. Those are always
everywhere.
We had been told by
one of the campers that one of the pit toilet doors was malfunctioning and the
other pit toilet was not fit for use to put it mildly. I called that in to maintenance but had to
leave a message since it’s Sunday. I
took some pliers and screwdrivers to maybe fix the door but someone had already
fixed it. I gagged at the other toilet
so Bill went in and made it useable again.
Nasty, nasty people! There were a
couple of sites not vacated and we had planned to go back after dinner but a
storm blew up and it poured so we will get to them tomorrow. There were only 3 campers left for tonight
unless they left when the storm hit.
When I put the
awning out this morning it would unroll but the arms were not going out so I
got the ladder out and tugged on one end and it finished opening. Bill sprayed the moving parts on both arms
when he got home so hopefully that will cure the problem. We JUST got them done and in when the storm
hit. We’ve had our share of awning
problems so are trying to be very diligent in the care of this new one. I have gotten to sit out under it a lot now
that the windy season here seems to have passed. Today Molly was out in her hut and a rabbit
came out to visit her. She’s never seen
a rabbit and just watched. When I
startled the rabbit and it took off it startled Molly. She loves to watch the birds come to feed and
sit it the tree over her hut.
Bill stopped for a
Sunday paper before he came home today so we both perused it, well both, as he
got a Baltimore paper and a Washington paper. Double the coupons and better grocery
ads. Nothing good on TV so Bill had on
some show about RV renovation. He better
not be getting any ideas!
