Out Playing with Mike and Darlene

August 16 – What a fun day! After a light breakfast of cereal since we had plans to have both lunch and dinner out, we all got ready to head out for the first half of the day. Bill and I took Xena out and she went crazy over a snowshoe hare that was right beside the porch. That little dog just bayed and bayed and wanted so bad to chase after that rabbit. Bill had to pull and pull to get her off the scent and to finish her business and come inside. I think the whole area could hear her.

Kelly and Mike brave the rushing waters
Mike drove us to Grand Lake, which is a lake with a town bordering it also named Grand Lake. At the far end of the lake is one end of the Rocky Mountain National Park. There’s a nice hiking trail of about ½ mile in to Adams Falls. The weather was perfect for the hike. The water is down so the falls were not as grand as they are in the spring but we all enjoyed the view. Mike and I climbed down for more views while Bill and Darlene stayed on top taking photos and videos. We took a different way back which is a loop and we ended up on the part of the trail we came in on. After a drive around some of the housing, which is for the most part gorgeous, we went into town. Parking spaces were readily available so we parked and walked both sides of the street, checking out the shops as we went. We found a good spot for lunch. The guys had HUGE burgers, Dar had a 3 cheese grilled cheese and I had a Gyro Salad. Everyone was totally pleased with their lunch and I think we all licked our platters clean.

We finished checking out the shops, then headed back to the house. We all rested, read, walked the dog and then hit the road again to go to dinner in Silverthorne. We went to Dillon Dam Brewery and again we had a great meal. I had Naked Pasta with blackened chicken. It had a light white wine sauce with portabello mushrooms and garlic. Tried so hard to eat it all but left a few pieces of chicken.

We had a nice drive back and by then everyone was pretty much ready for bed. It’s an hour drive. I wrote a couple of post cards and read for a while and Bill read for a while. Have to go back to Navajo tomorrow.
