Day in Durango

August 3- We slept a tiny bit later today but we needed to get going on time as Bill had a haircut appointment in Durango. We decided to each have a banana and stop at the bakery in Ignacio on the way. We left at 8:30 and made the bakery stop, where Bill got a huge buttermilk cake donut and I got a green chili and cheese scone. It was more like a big bun. I got a loaf of cheddar and jalapeno bread too. We each had a slice to test it and it’s got some kick but not what I’d call hot.

View of Historic Durango and the famous Strater Hotel
We were early for Bill’s appointment and he only had a short wait and was actually done before his appointment time. She didn’t cut it as short as Wanda does but it sure does look better. Then Bill took me up to Ft. Lewis College where he drove around Wednesday when he was in town to get the truck oil changed. The college is a nice campus on a mesa above Durango and the views down on Durango are awesome. We parked and there are numerous paths down the side of the mountain and there are some benches and tables where you can sit and enjoy the view.

Taking a break at the Ft Lewis Overlook
On the way down we stopped at Albertson’s for some specials and I found out that if we spend $25 or more they will give you a pound of dry ice. So I got some fresh salmon and hamburgers and other refrigerator items that we put in the cooler with the dry ice. It kept until we got home over 5 hours later.

We didn’t want to rush to the movie and be late so we stopped as McDonald’s for a quick lunch. Their salads are just not a good as Wendy’s but Wendy’s is in the opposite direction. So we went to the movies and saw “The Dark Knight Rises” and boy was it good. I was surprised I’d like it as much as I did. It’s a long movie but a lot of story or you wouldn’t have a clue. Surprise ending too! While we were in the movie we could hear some loud raining outside. Found out it hailed and rained.

Again we split the list at Wal-Mart so we were in and out in record time. Made a pit stop for fuel and headed back to Navajo. Not a drop of rain hit here. I dropped Bill off to pick up the mule. I didn’t feel well all day so I told Bill he could go to Newell’s without me. He ended up taking the brownies down but he didn’t stay. I read and moped around, just not myself. My left wrist has hurt all day too. My brace didn’t help. Bill made his own dinner of leftovers and later I had two slices of French bread with deli ham and swiss cheese in the toaster oven and some grapes.

We watched the Olympics a while and I typed up two days of travels. Now to try and post some!
