Flamingo Caper

August 20 - We woke to some gray skies and rain today. No rush to get out and moving so I made an omelet for Bill and I had some oatmeal. We drove the mule up to the office and it was nippy for sure and we got some rain splatters on us. We didn’t have any reservations today. Bill had gathered up 6 of the 12 flamingoes and we put them in Barry’s yard since he’s in Santa Fe until Tuesday. I think Manuel has convinced Newell that Bill and I put them in his yard when it was he and Joan. I’m hearing that it was a group effort on our site so we’re trying to share the flamingoes with our friends.

We came back and just watched TV until it cleared off. I took 2 loads of wash up so Bill will have clean clothes to take to Tucson on Wednesday. Manuel was there so we visited for the 30 minutes it takes for the wash. After I hung up the wash I went out and started weeding. I managed to get 5 sites done and Bill came with the sprayer of round up and we were doing the inside of the loop sites until it started raining again. We had planned to take the kayak out this afternoon but it’s too sketchy for that.

I took the leftover rotisserie chicken out of the freezer and simmered it for several hours in chicken broth and made chicken and dumplings for dinner with steamed cabbage with lemon horsey sauce.

We worked on our trip home. We’re leaving September 5, so I have it mapped out for the first few days. We are heading north into Nebraska, across it and Iowa to Field of Dreams, then south from there. I’m not sure yet how many days but while Bill is gone to Tucson I plan to finish it up and then work on applications for next summer.
