Sights worth seeing!

Captains Log June 1 – Today was a very eventful day!  We were on the road at a reasonable

Salem Sue
time and heading west on I-94.  Our first stop was to see Salem Sue near Salem, ND.  Sue is the world’s largest Holstein Cow and she had proudly stood on a hilltop since 1974.  She has been taken care of by locals and represents the major milk industry in the area.  We had to park the RV at the fairgrounds at the bottom of the hill and drive the truck to the top.  It was well worth the stop for the view as well!

From there we were back on I-94 until it was time to get on the Enchanted Highway!  The road south has 7 or 8 steel exhibits.  The first is Flying Geese as you

get off of the exit.  Then once on the highway south they are spaced apart with a nice parking area large enough for us to pull in and turn around.

In the first stop, the deer, we had our lunch break.  A couple of the places had steep uneven berms so I only pulled along side and there was NO traffic so we got a couple of photos and moved on.  It’s a really neat little side trip and the road is a nice 2 lane with nothing in between but farmland.  The exhibits appear to be well maintained and someone mows all the grass.  There was

an older man on a riding more at our first one so maybe he does them all.  We didn’t see him again so we could have been the last one instead of the first!

In case my readers don’t know, you can see all of my photos by clicking “Photo Albums” on the right. I think my daughter hasn’t hooked up this years photos so check again in a day or so.

Once we completed the Enchanted Highway, which was south, we turned west again, then north to get back to

Pheasants
the interstate.  That was the worst possible road experience ever!  We thought for sure we had severely damaged the front of the RV.  There were the normal signs alerting to road work and delays.  NO WHERE did it say we’d have to drive around 2 culverts on soft wet dirt and that the road had pits all along.  We were sure the truck was going to go off the edge when we swung out left and the crossing wasn’t as long as the RV even.  It was an experience I do not want to do over!  Once
Fisherman's Dream

we stopped for the night we were both dreading looking at the RV but it was fine!

We got into our stop at Medora, ND mid-afternoon and were able to get 2 loads of laundry done.  I told Bill I’d do his “vehicle” rags tomorrow.  It was a trying day but all ended well.  We cleaned out our number of leftover containers so now we can start over!
