Better day off!

June 4 – Woke at 6:30 to the pitter patter of rain on the roof.  Didn’t do much sleeping after
The Vanilla Bean
than.  It was a bit nippy when we got up.  Didn’t really have major plans for today.  Wanted to finish taking back some things so we headed out to the first shopping center, then the second.  The only thing I have left to find is a really small drain dish.  I think I’ll have to look on line.  We checked out the downtown of Putnam.  It’s very nice with an impressive selection of restaurants.  We’ll have to go back there one evening.  Eventually we made our way to Pomfret where Kam gave us a gift card before we left for The Vanilla Bean.  Before lunch we attempted to visit a gift shop but the lady rudely told me they didn’t open until 1.  So we went to a different one where the people were super nice.  Didn’t buy anything but it sure smelled good in Martha’s Herbary.

What a cup of chili!
Lunch was delicious.  It was a tough decision, so many interesting things to pick from.  Bill had chili and a chicken salad sandwich and I settled on the Portobello, spinach and onion quiche with an arugula salad.  Bill said twice we need to come back.  They do 4-5 dinner choices Friday – Sunday so we will go back then for sure.  Thank you Kam!

While we ate Home Depot called that our carpet to make the
Typical Shaker style house
dash mat came in.  So we decided although it was kinda out of the way, we’d like to pick it up and work on it today.  On the way we stopped by the Sharpe Hill Vineyard
Turkey butt
but they aren’t open but Friday thru Sunday.  Will have to stop by again.  We did get to drive some very scenic roads and see some nice homes off the beaten path.  I spotted my second wild turkey for the day and got Bill to stop and back up so I could get a photo.

Dash mat
We picked up the carpet and when we got home Bill mowed our grass and put our yard ornaments back out and I made a newspaper pattern of our dash and cut out the mat.  It fit really well, only had to trim a little here and a little there.   Still have to cut the holes for the vents but will do that another day.  Don’t need them until we leave.  Will use the balance of the carpet to make a mat for the back of the new car.  Then I actually got to sit down and finish the book I have been reading since we left.

Natchaug River and Bill
While we had dinner we got a short rain burst.  It didn’t spoil our walk after dinner.  We counted all of the seasonal RV’s here and there are 5 Class A’s, 30 travel trailers and 25 5th wheels.  We stopped and asked Linda and Carl how their trip to Niagara went and if they’d trade Tuesday next week for Thursday off and they said no problem.  I will order tickets tomorrow for the BostonCleveland game.  We hoped to go for 2 nights but won’t be possible with the schedule.  We will just leave early and spend some of the day in Boston before the 7:10 game.  Since we’ll get home late it works out OK since we don’t have to work until 11 the next day.

We have our first chipmunk in the bush behind our RV.  He’s so cute.  Wonder if I’ll ever get a photo of him.
