June 17 – Well, it wasn’t the
best of days! After breakfast I had to
spend considerable time on the phone.
Not fun as I wasn’t talking to my family or fiends. Trying to settle changing from Century Link
to Spectrum back on April 21! Had to
talk to one of my doctor’s offices. We
didn’t managed to leave until close to 11.
Selkirk/Salmon River LH |
The plan was to visit a couple
more lighthouses on Lake
Ontario . We took the interstate and where we got off
we visited the first lighthouse, Salmon River LH AKA Selkirk LH. It looks out over the marina in Pulaski , NY . Of course it was not open and there was a
fellow doing some stone repair work on one side. I asked him if there were 2 lighthouses and
he said no, they just changed the name!
Bill wanted to stop at a grocery
store to get
a bottle of Aunt Jemima syrup as they have announced they are
changing the name on it in the fall to avoid being considered racists. My feeling on that is if anyone read the
reason it was named that was to honor a former slave lady that had done many
good things in her life, but no, we can no longer honor her, how sad! Anyway there were only 3 bottles left so he
got one.
Stony Point - see the grill in front!! |
We planned to pick up salads from
Wendy’s to take with us to the next location, but it our choice was Arby’s or
McD’s. I went in for McD’s but they are
doing a limited menu and salad was not on it.
So we headed on our way to Henderson Point to see Stony
Point LH ,
AKA Henderson
Point LH. Not a fun drive. It’s a long way out there only to fine the
lighthouse is privately owned and being lived in and there are no trespassing
signs there and on the neighbor’s place.
I did get a couple of pictures and believe me, I have been known to
ignore signs but there were too many vehicles around to do it today. That also drives Bill crazy! Now the other downer is I should have been
able to see out to Galloo
Island and with my new camera get a photo of one of
the 2 lighthouses on the islands.
CRAP!
We drove by a huge marina on the
way to and from but there was no town to speak of so no place to get food. Bill snacked on a bag of peanuts he got at
the grocery and I was fine. I could tell
he was not a happy camper after the drive to be let down with no lunch so we
didn’t talk on the ride home. He was
happiest to get home to some food. I had an
apple and put the chicken breast I had in the fridge in broth in my toaster
oven and slow cooked it for dinner.
Bill read and took a nap and I
read a while as well. Printed a few
postcards and downloaded the few photos I took.
Planned our stops for tomorrow and Bill asked me to book the only boat
trip available near Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands
region. Hope it’s nice out!
I made chicken quesadillas for
dinner. I had a nice salad and Bill had leftover cabbage. Nothing good on TV so
will read and write our few cards this evening.
Tomorrow should be a bit more exciting!
