June
4 – Time to head north and leave Sharon and Bruce! We had a super time with them, lots of laughs
for sure! We managed to leave the
campground about 9:20, then immediately stopped to fuel the RV and the
truck. We had hoped we could hook up at
the station but there really wasn’t a suitable spot that we could safely turn
out and make the turn. So I followed
Bill to the highway and then I passed him and watched for a spot to pull over
in. We got hooked up but the angle of
the truck wasn’t right and the wheel wouldn’t turn once it was in tow
mode. We got it straightened out along
the highway! A few miles down the road
Bill found a locking pin in his pocket and had me pull over to put it in and I
hadn’t put mine e in! It was sitting
on the dash, duh!!!!
Once
we actually got going it wasn’t a bad drive to Kansas City .
We had tickets to see the Royals play the Red Sox and the stadium is on
the edge of town and I had found a campground, Stadium RV Park, just a couple
of miles from the stadium. It’s OK for
overnight but not the best place we’ve ever stayed, and not the worst! It could use some maintenance. There was a motorhome beside us and they were
here for the game also.
Chiefs Stadium |
We
ate a late lunch once we arrived and I got on the computer while Bill washed
the front of the RV. Then we got our
showers and relaxed a while til it was time to go. It was a hop, skip and a jump to the stadium
and parking was a breeze. We arrived
about 6 and the game was at 7:15. The
Chiefs stadium is back to back with the Royals.
They could never have games at both places at the same time due to
parking! They share the parking.
Not
a very big crowd at all. The big thing
at the stadiums in KC is bbq! That’s the
big food item here and there are always in competition. We learned that when we were here
before. I scouted out some places after
we sat for an hour and ended up getting a pulled pork platter at Sweet Baby
Ray’s. I love that sauce. My sides were mac and cheese (which shocked
Bill as I never get it) and cole slaw.
The pork and the slaw were excellent and the mac was so so. Bill had a taste of mine and when he couldn’t
find the recommended hot dog stand he got the same thing. For the price it was a good deal!

Game shot |
The
game was a bit slow, low scoring but there were a couple of good plays. The Royals pitching was struggling. We didn’t really care who won so we critiqued
them all. The Sox poured it on late in
the game and won 8 – 3.
We
got turned around going home since they send you out a different exit but we
managed to eventually find our way back.
Tomorrow is about 175 miles, so that’s not bad!
