Moving across Montana

June 12 – I woke up around 5 and lay back down until 6:30.  Since we had a shorter day planned Bill said he’d like to leave about 9.  Well by the time we did get moving and had breakfast my sister called about our land closing and I ended up struggling with the lack of internet service for quite a while and we did get on the road at 9.

So light and fluffy..
It was a beautiful drive today, with cotton candy clouds and then cloudless blue skies.  There were verdant fields and rolling hills.  The highlight for me was an abundance of antelope.  I saw a couple of hundred scattered along the road.  Some with babies, some bucks and all were grazing. I wanted some photos but Bill was laying down for a while and then he just didn’t have an interest in taking a few shots of them for me.  Butt head!

We were not in South Dakota very long and then Wyoming was equally short, but we sure spent a lot of time in Montana.  There is no doubt why it’s called “Big Sky Country”.  We drove through a couple of National Forests and by the Little Big Horn area.  Actually we stopped by there to have our lunch break.

We were making really good time as once again the traffic was rather sparse but once we
And we're stuck on the ramp
stopped at the eastern edge of Billings where we filled up the tank and cleaned the windshield, we were stuck on the entrance ramp to of I-90.  Almost every vehicle in front of us turned around on the ramp and drove back off and a few cars on the interstate did the same.  We could see it was backed up on both sides of the highway.  Bill thought it was due to a road block for VP Pence who was in town today.  Once our side got moving we discovered there was an accident in the other lane.  An ambulance and police car were still along the side of the road with 2 little children.  Guess the parent or parents were transported.

Our exit was on the west side of Billings where we planned to park for the afternoon and night at Wal-mart.  The lot looked pretty full so we drove behind it thinking they had some truck parking there but we ended up having to go behind Lowes and Fred’s Appliance and come back around.  There was one motorhome towing parked along one side and we decided I could get in front of him so that’s where we landed.  As of 8 pm there are 7 rigs parked in various spots based on their sizes.

We only opened the big slide and took a break and relaxed a bit while I did some paperwork that I need to email my sister for in the morning.  Of course the internet hot spot on Bill’s phone isn’t working very well again.  ATT must not be a biggy out here!

After a refreshment break we walked over to Wal-Mart with a short list and came back with 2 Trader Joe bags full!  We were out of fresh veggies and fruit and now that Sharon and Bruce won’t be bad influences on us for a while we’ll be eating in more.  We did get a rotisserie chicken for dinner and a small tub of potato salad and I made salads for our veggie.  We were excited as they had Wilcoxson Huckleberry ice cream sandwiches!  Ya hoooo!  We only got one box of 12 (for now).  They make a dipped on a stick one also but I didn’t even look for it.  They had a big selection of huckleberry items as well.

Dinner was tasty and dessert was even tastier!  Then it was bookeeping work!  Bill did up the dishes and  I can’t post a thing, well, hopefully tomorrow will be a better location.

  1. I'll have to look for those Wilcoxson Huckleberry ice cream sandwiches...never heard of them, but they sound really, really good from your comments! Sharon
