June
6 – Since there were no utilities to deal with this morning we lit out from
Lavista at 9. We did stop just a few
miles up the road at Flying J and got both diesel and DEF. It took longer than expected as we waited
behind a semi and then doing the DEF takes a bit. While Bill pumped the diesel I did the best I
could with what I had to work with to get yesterday’s bugs off the
windshield. At least the big splats were
gone!
Then
it was no stopping until we turned off to Hastings
where we are attending a Nebraska Good Sam Rally at the fairgrounds there. We had the idea it was a small town, but
there’s large college here and several manufacturing plants. Plenty of banks along the main drag, eateries,
and of course, Wal-Mart! We pretty much
drove thru town on the main street and went 3-4 blocks right and 2 blocks down
it was on the right. When we registered
you don’t really get to pick what amenities you want. There are only a very few
full hook ups, some water and electric and all have electric. The entire grounds have about 300 sites but
they try to keep everyone in one area that is close to the buildings where the
events will be held. We were offered a
full hook up but is would have required us to really get the front end of the
coach way up to be level and with the issues we’ve had with the front leveling
system we opted for a 50 amp site with no water.
We dumped our tanks and filled our water tank with city water and are
parked along a curb maybe 30 feet to the main hall. We’re on asphalt but had to block up the right
side of the RV a bit.
They give out Good Sam big bags with a lot more goodies that we ever get atFlorida rallies. There was even a popcorn ball! They have opportunity for more food as well. Once
we got set up Bill went over to check things out and then we went back and I
got 5 like new paperback books for $2.
We bought some raffle tickets and signed up for games. Some we have no idea what they are. They play a lot more games here than in Florida .
Then we went into town to get some documents notarized and to the post office for a priority mail envelope. There was discussion of getting ice cream, but instead we came home and I made iced coffees instead.
The rally is 103 rigs at the last announcement, so it’s not big. Tonight was hotdog night and ice cream so Bill went over for that and I had meatloaf and broccoli. The opening ceremony was at 6:30 and was really brief then the entertainment started. Five “mature” guys, 3 on guitars, 1 on drums and 1 played the accordion. They were pretty good but as it always seems to go, the sound system was not very good for the voices, just the music.
Once the entertainment ended they gave out door prizes. They do it by name, not number
and believe it
or not (since we never win) we received one.
It’s melting scented wax thingys.
There are 2 packages. They gave
away a lot of local gift certificates tonight.
They seem to give smaller amounts so more people get something. That’s nice!
Then it was walk our 30 feet walk home to journal, read and prepare for another rally day!
