July 7 – Time to play
tourist!
Today we drove just south to
Grand Haven where we first stopped at the Tri-County Museum
in town. Boy, was it busy down
there! Lots of shops, restaurants and
people. It’s right on the coast of Lake Michigan and was loaded with tourist for the
weekend. The staff at the museum stamped
my passport book with the Grand Lake Lighthouse stamp and gave me directions
where I could best see it. There was no
parking along the street so Bill had dropped me off and said to call when I was
ready. He found a spot a street over and
zipped around to get me.
Traffic to the lighthouse
area was bumper to bumper. That is the
main beach area and
there’s also a state park there with a pretty large
campground. We knew parking was not
going to happen so Bill dropped me off and I kinda, well, not kinda, I DID
sneak in to the state park and walked through the campground (which are tiny
cramped spaces) out to the beach and trudged along in the sand to where I could
get a decent photo of the lighthouse and the second one right behind it. Technically you can walk out to the tall one
but the second one is under repairs so you can’t get to it.

I got my photo and was
heading back and as I walked up the sidewalk along the right side I was scoping
whether to go right or left at the cross walk and meet Bill in a different
spot. I didn’t notice about a foot of
the edge of the sidewalk was broken off and my right foot hit it and I went down! Is that my punishment for trespassing? I guess things have a way of catching up to you. Well, some guys were across the way
and asked if I was OK or needed assistance.
I didn’t do the proper “tuck and roll”, rather I braced my fall with my
left hand and scraped my palm a bit. I
landed on my left hip and discovered later I must have kept my arm straight as
my worst pain later is in my left shoulder.
I tried to look like I was
fine as I walked passed the guys and over to the road where I called Bill to
let me know where to pick me up. I’m
sure I’ll be worse tomorrow.
We left Grand Haven with the
plan to come back on a week day when we can browse around and find
parking. Bill wanted some things from
Camping World so there is one west of Grand
Rapids and near Grandville, which is where we were
headed. That is one of the
biggest Camping Worlds we have ever seen.
Bill got his parts but mine for my stove would need to be ordered, so
I’ll do it on line or call the company that Camping World would be calling
anyway.
By now we were hungry and were headed to World Market. On the way we
saw a BBQ place, Famous Dave’s BBQ. We’d
never heard of one but took a chance and had a good lunch. Had my first salad with brisket with a BBQ honey dressing. It was delicious,
especially the corn muffin that came with it.
That was superb! Bill had a lunch
combo of ribs and brisket. He wasn’t
crazy about his ribs.
The plan was for him to go
to see the Ant-man movie while I did my shopping, so I dropped him at the movie
then I went to Dollar Tree, World Market, Bath
and Body Works and Kohl’s. I parked near
the entrance where I dropped him and the Younkers store. When he came out we went to Younkers to see
if we could get any more bargains, and we did!
Everything was either 50% or 60% off and we got another 20% as
seniors. Bill got socks, 2 pair of slacks,
and a shirt and I found black sneakers, bras and a pair of capris. We will continue to visit the one closer to
us each time we’re over there. Never
know what we will find.
Time to head for the
ranch! Once we put things away I had a
glass of wine and read and he was out and about.
