July 10 - Our last day
off! Bill slept in but I got up and made
scones for breakfast and got started on a batch of caramel corn. I send a bag to our friend Mike in Colorado for his
birthday and I’m late as it was the 3rd and we didn’t get here until
the 1st. He and his wife have
the same birthday but I sent her some other goodies! Anyway I got it made and after we had lunch
we left for the afternoon.
We went into Muskegon to the Muskegon
Museum of Art, mostly so Bill could see the

Edward Curtis exhibit. He is known for his years of visiting with
native Americans and photographing them and writing an account of their customs
and rituals. Last year the museum displayed
the entire collection of 723 portfolio photographs that the museum owns. Currently the display is 178. He photographed western tribes and Alaskan
tribes. There were other good exhibits
that are travelling exhibits. One was
TOTALLY lifelike sculptures. A couple
were so real looking they were creepy. I
thought it might jump at me and scare he be-jesus out of me! There are an exhibit of vintage
motorcycles.

Hackney House |
We drove past the homes of Hume and Hackney homes on the way to find the used book store. We
are going to go back for a tour when they're open on our days off. The homes are beautiful from the out-side and right next door to each other. Hume came to work for Hackney who became extremely wealthy an a huge benefactor of the city of Muskegon.
The library is next door and
the building itself is gorgeous old stone work.
We wanted to see if we could get library cards but they said no, we’d
have to prove residency. We had
discovered a used book store down on lakeshore drive so headed there. There was a “gone for 5 minutes” sign on the
door so we went in the store next door for an iced coffee beverage which we
enjoyed while sitting at the outside bistro table. We saw the ferry we may be taking over to Milwaukee. Once she came back we did find 7 books
between us.
Kam had given us restaurant
gift cards for Muskegon
for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day so we decided to use one tonight. Hearthstone was a great choice!. The place is beautiful, the staff was
attentive, the menu was interesting and the food excellent. Bill was pleased to see a perch dinner on the
menu and tried the cheese popcorn soup.
They specialize in soups. It was
very good but I went with a lettuce wedge and a pasta, chicken, veggie
dish. Lots of veggies! I brought home my lunch for tomorrow!
Across the street was a
Meijer’s so we made a quick stop for the 3 items I forgot yesterday. I did throw in a bottle of wine in case I
have a rough work week!
