Baking, cooking and shopping - what better day could it be!!

August 26 – It was 36 when I got up this morning!  Brrr, for sure!  I was frozen until noon!  I was awakened at 5:30 by Bill’s phone, therefore, I did take a short nap after noon but I had 2 phone calls so there was not much napping done.

Bill’s been after me to make a cookie recipe from a book series by Joanna Fluke.  The main character, Hannah, owns a cookie shop and each books has 4 -5 recipes that she mentions during the murder mystery.  So I made Molasses Crackles.  It makes so many that I only cooked half the batch today.  They have to chill and you roll the dough into a ball and roll in sugar, then flatten a bit and bake.  They are good, BUT, using molasses, in my opinion, REQUIRES ginger, lots of ginger!  This called for cinnamon and a bit of cardamom.  They are great cookies but my taste buds knew the ginger was missing!

When Bill came back from the office he brought ginger cookies that Gina made, and I put cookies back in the container for Bill to deliver back!  I put together a chicken pot pie for dinner.  Am going to use a pie crust for the top today instead of biscuits.  I made enough mess today with cookies.

After lunch we went into West for a bit.  I needed to get a couple of cards and Bill wanted to go to the store that’s closing and see if the prices went down anymore.  No good deals today!  We stopped at one of the grocery stores and got bananas for tomorrow morning and ice creams sandwiches to stock up and take home!

The pot pie was good and just enough left for one person so that worked out well.  Of course there were cookies for dessert!
