Last free day for a bit!

July 1 - Since we will be working the next 4 days (supposed to be 3 after this week) we went on a little excursion today.

We headed in a different direction to where the Target store is.  I couldn’t remember what else was there but figured there was a grocery store and maybe somewhere for lunch.   Target is part of a big plaza with a Michaels, Staples and other stores and there used to be a Bed, Bath and Beyond.  Across from it is a Shop and Go Grocery and a Lowes.

I toodled around in Target and picked up a few grocery items on sale and found a nice new napkin holder (that Bill said we didn’t need but I hated the old one) and a replacement 2 quart bowl that conveniently has a snap on lid.

I checked out Michaels for furniture markers and Staples for soda stream ginger ale syrup but no luck for either.  Then I checked Lowes for the markers and they have the single color ones and I’m not sure what the color would be so will have to keep looking.

A quick stop at the grocery netted a stalk of celery and a seasoned pork tenderloin.  They had a nice sale on!

We drove around a few of the streets to see what else was in town and there was an Aldi, which was good to know and a Dollar Tree.  Nothing looked interesting for lunch to have in the truck so we went thru the Taco Bell drive thru.  Bill always likes it there but I should have passed on it!

We spent a couple of hours driving through and in to Putnam where we have eaten a couple of times in the past with other volunteers.  We drove along the river a bit and saw the dam.  For a Monday it was quite crowded and no parking in the “hot spots” so we left and drove over to Pomfret.  There are 2 huge private schools there along one of the main roads and there are 2 restaurants there that we’ve eaten in that are good.  One is a deli type place with great sandwiches and the other is fancier and Bill doesn’t remember us eating there with our friends Ron and Barbara.  It’s a steak place in an old house with lots of glass to see out into the trees.  I’m sure in 2 months we will venture back to both places.

We saw a deer cross the road in front of us and a baby deer dead on the road.  This is a highly wooded area so we must be diligent when out and about as there are lots of deer here.

We barely got in the RV and the skies opened up once again!  Once it stopped Bill asked me to go get his phone from the truck.  The truck was in 3-4 inches of water so I told him it would wait.  Once it receded I went out – no phone!  It was in his waist pouch where he said he didn’t put it!

I had taken a package of 2 chicken breasts out for dinner and fixed one for dinner with leftover mashed potatoes and fresh green beans and sautéed the other one after and made a bowl of pasta salad with the chicken and will add more veggies tomorrow when we have it for dinner.

We watched a bit of TV but nothing of major interest tonight!
