Tootling around Tucson

October 3 – This morning we had to go the RV to get Bill’s allergy shot and we had a short list of other things.  I went inside to see where it was currently parked and she told me it’s in a bay and they tech is working on it as the radiator came in last night!  I was very excited but not happy that they didn’t let us know.  The removal and installation takes about 6 hours and she said she didn’t know if he’d get it done today.  At least if came and was getting done.  She said it should be ready around noon tomorrow.  They take the whole bed top off to get to the radiator, so inside the RV was quite a mess!  We did what we came for and got what we needed and left for Carole’s.  We left as happier campers than we came!

We told Carole we were taking her to the Cathedral of St. Augustine in downtown Tucson.  I don’t recall EVER going to downtown.  Many years ago Carole worked for the symphony downtown and she was very taken by the
The Altar
changes there.  We parked right in front of the church and went in.  We had no idea they would be holding a Mass!  We sat quietly in the back as it was nearing the end.  Then we walked up to see the naves and altar better.  The most unique thing about the cathedral is the floor slopes down from the entrance to the altar then levels out.  It makes it so you can see better.  The windows were beautiful as well.

Bill wanted to go to the Evergreen Cemetery on that side of Tucson as well so it was not too far.  Tom Jeffords is buried there.  Carole and I had no idea who he was, but Bill, having been a history teacher and loving all things Western, said he negotiated the treaty with

Cochise and married his daughter and did some other important things.  The cemetery is huge and we went to the office and a lady drove out in front of us and found the headstone.

Lunch time!  None of us had ever eaten at Jason’s Deli and it was in the area with great ratings.  I will say the menu is huge and there are so many options it is a bit overwhelming.  I had a Quarter Muffelatta and it was awesome!  Carole went with a fancy grilled cheese and thick tomato soup and Bill had fancy BLT!  We all agreed it was definitely worth the stop!

On the way home we stopped at Wal-mart and a used book store.  By the time we did that I was ready for a Culver’s, so we went to the drive thru on the way home.  Yum!

Carole and I couldn’t decide on what to get for dinner so we ended up with Marie Callendar pot pies and we were all happy!  We had our skinny Klondike bars later while watching a bit of TV.  Time to head home, our last night in Tucson!
