October
6 – Our day started off great! It was
beautiful out and we had breakfast and hooked the truck up to the RV and Bill
went in to do the light check on the tow and came out to give me the not so
great news that the coolant light came on!
Crap!
He
said the tech told him it might happen and gave him a gallon of coolant to put
in. Of course neither of us had ever put
coolant in and we couldn’t even get the radiator cap off! Bill doesn’t have much hand strength so I got
it to turn but didn’t know the “trick” to get it off. After a few minutes of “playing” with it, it
came off. We slowly, with a funnel, got
the gallon in and put the cap back on and Bill went it to start it. It still registered low so while he went to
the auto store to get more coolant, he left me to get the cap off again. This time I was not successful, so I called
Bruce and asked him what the trick was.
He told me but I just wasn’t getting it off. Then the owner of the motorhome behind us
came out and I asked him if he could help me and he got it right off. When Bill got back the other neighbor gave us
a funnel he rigged up that was much easier to put the fluid in with. Bill called our friend Paul and asked him
questions as he used to drive diesel truck all the time. He said to leave the cap off and run the
engine and I slowly poured more in and it took a long time for the dash gauge
to register that it was warming up and doing its thing! Finally!!
We thanked Paul and told him we’d see them in a few hours in Albuquerque as he was
driving there as well!
The
drive north went great and we arrived at Bernalillo Sheriff’s Posse Arena just
after Paul and Jean arrived. Bruce and
Sharon were already here and we were able to park between them. It was great to see everyone again! Should be a fun few days.
Once
we got set up and sat out and caught up for a while, we headed to El Pinto for
dinner. It’s really close so no getting
tied up in traffic. The food was
plentiful and Bill and I had leftovers to bring home. Everyone was tired by then and went to their
RV’s and called it a night!
