The cave was discovered in 1974 by 2 college students who explored it several years before they found out it was not part of the Forest Service, but was on private land.  Once they found out they told the land owners.  Later the Kartchner family sold the property to the state.  It’s a constant 76 degrees in the cave.  A shuttle takes you to the entrance and a ranger briefed us on the history of the cave, how long it took in forming, verified that we had no water, candy, gum, bags, cameras, etc and lead us on a one hour tour.  There are 2 tours but one is closed during bat season.  I love caves and cave formations.  They had more soda straw formations than I’ve ever seen in a cave.  They also had the largest column formation and it was amazing!  If you ever get to Tucson area, you need to book one of the tours!  Of course no photos!!We returned to the visitor center and claimed our personal belongings and headed back to Tucson.
On the way we stopped at a Safeway grocery where I got fresh trout filets for Carole and I for dinner (Bill is getting leftover chicken), Jennie O Italian Turkey sausage links and a couple other items.  I spotted the Starbucks as I walked in and I have not had one since we left home in May!  Once I checked out I called Bill to see if he wanted a Frappucino – Of course he did!  So I got my Java Chocolate Chip and a Caramel for him.  Oh, it was soooo good!  I could barely pace myself to not get a brain freeze!  OK, now you know my weakness!
Carole had spent some of her day with friends and had lunch out.  I had a glass of wine (to wash down the Frappuccino and chilled til it was time to make dinner.  I put on some Brown Minute Rice with chicken bouillon, and then put the trout on with a bit of Mrs. Dash and lemon juice.  I took out the leftover potato salad, kale salad and Waldorf salad to top off the meal.  Bill picked out his chicken pieces and I nuked them and we had a lovely dinner.  Carole and I really enjoyed our fish and I love rice so I was especially satisfied.  Bill is always happy with chicken and potato salad!
Bill and Carole did the dishes and we gathered in the living room for a bit of TV before Bill and left to make sure Molly was OK.  It was another great day in Tucson (sans RV)!

October 1 – Bill and I left about 10:30 this morning.  We headed east on I-10 to Benson where we had an early lunch.  We scheduled a cave tour at Kartchner State Park at 1:00.  We arrived at the park about 12:30 and picked up our tour tickets, took a bathroom break,
