Lunch with a friend and sightseeing!

October 2 -  We were up early, showered, ate and were ready to leave by 8, and didn’t need to leave til 9 and even that was too early!  We were meeting our friend Newell and his daughter Kelly (such a great name), in Tombstone for lunch.  Of course we were early but we found a thrift store on the same street as the OK Café where we were meeting.

The store is a collection of antiques in addition to the normal kitchen gadgets, tools and bric-a-brac.  We did find 4 books that cost a whopping $2.00.  I have got to read faster!!!  We parked at the café and were there just long enough to get water served when Newell arrived.  His daughter was travelling with her dog so we had to sit outside at a picnic table,
Newell and Kelly
but luckily it was under the trees.  We had a delicious lunch and it was great to see Newell.  I don’t even know what year we met but it was at least as far back as 2011 as we had the 5th wheel then and we volunteered together with Barry at Navajo State Park in Arboles, CO.  We’ve caught up with him a few times since then.  Volunteering has been a great experience for us as we’ve made friends at almost every spot we’ve volunteered in.  Could be our magnetic personalities!  So good to see you Newell, and we hope you and Kelly enjoy the rest of her stay.  It was a pleasure to meet her!

They left after lunch so we walked Tombstone and checked out the shops but only left with 2 post cards.  We drove on to Bisbee and it was pretty dead there.  We parked and walked and a lot of the shops were closed and Bill was very bummer that the Killer Bee honey store was closed.  He had his taste buds tuned for some Peanut Butter honey they make.  Oh well!!!

We stopped in a few stores and I got a Christmas gift for Kam and Dan and that was it!  We sat in the lobby of the Copper Queen for a while, admiring the workmanship and vintage furniture.  It is the oldest continually operating hotel in Arizona, built in 1902.  It’s pricey and I imagine the rooms are nice!

With the little train
After a photo op of the little train cars they used in the mine there we made our way back to the car.  Bill asked me to
Copper Queen
drive home and we went via Sierra Vista.  What a nice little city in the middle of o where!  Oh and we went to a Border Station and were not arrested!

We debated whether to check on Molly or Carole first and I really didn’t want to drive out to the motel and back to Carole’s and then back later so we took the chance that Molly was OK.  Carole filled us in on her day and we filled her in on ours and I used the Italian Turkey sausage to make meatballs and simmered them until it was time to put the spaghetti on.  I made salads for each of us and poured a glass of wine to go with my dinner and we had a nice meal again!  Carole like the turkey sausage and once they cleared the dishes and put them away we watched the news on the boob tube.  Then Bill served us each a mini Klondike bar and we left for the motel.

Molly was fine but happy to see us!  Bill watched TV a while, then read while I was looking up places on the computer.  No word today about the radiator so keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.  I cancelled one night at City of Rocks State Park which is on our way to Albuquerque, hoping we get to use the other 2!
