August 12 - Things are
looking up! My face was a bit thinner this morning, so maybe I’m finally on the
right track!
Today was the last day for
the annual Blueberry Festival in South Haven.
We thought it was in Grand Haven, which in just a few miles south, but
Grand Haven is over an hour. By the time
we go showered and had breakfast of chocolate chip waffles, sausage and fruit
and were ready to leave it was noon. We
still headed south but started see lots of signs for blueberries and farm
markets. Bill had stopped in the office
and told Jean where we were headed and she asked us to bring her 5 pounds of
blueberries. We decided to check the
pricing at a couple of places on the way to make sure we got a good deal in
South Haven. As it ended up we found
berries $15 for 5 pounds at a person’s home so that’s where we got our
berries. I got 5 pounds also and later
put 4 pint bags in the freezer.
Burrito and Righteous Salad Bowl |
We went back to one of the
markets that reminded me of where Pete and Jane took us in Canada . They had blueberry scones, cakes, pies along
with really fresh and local grown produce.
They had heirloom tomatoes and the hugest cantaloupes, they reminded me
of the ones my grandpa used to grow in Virginia . So I got orange tomatoes, a cantaloupe and
some scones.
It was getting hot out and I
was starting to perspire which makes me itch, so we decided to turn back as it
would be a miserable afternoon out in the heat.
We stopped in Grand Haven to have lunch at Righteous Cuisine’s main
location but it was closed on Sunday. So
we headed on up the to mall area where I made a stop at JoAnn’s and then we
headed to the mall where we had a delicious lunch once again at the Righteous
Cuisine in the mall. Bill had a huge
burrito and I went with a Righteous Bowl Salad with pulled pork. They do the best steamed kale for the salad
and it had black beans, slaw, crunchy pickles, feta cheese, pulled pork and
topped with pork rinds. YUMMY! Needless to say I was stuffed!
We checked out Younkers and
it’s really thinning out! Wanted to get
some sheets but the
pickings were slim but I did get some nice items for Shiloh and Jude for Christmas. I checked Bed, Bath & Beyond and found
some suitable sheets on clearance and some coffee on sale. Bill browsed a couple of shops in the mall
but left empty handed!
Passed this car, Jeep Jeepster, used to be built in Toledo |
Aldi is at that exit so I
did a quick run with my short list and then it was to the Sam’s/Wal-mart
exit. Bill dropped me at Wal-mart while
he went to Sam’s for hearing aid batteries and then we gassed up at Sam’s and
headed home. I have to say, after being
cooped up for days and not moving around much I was pooped. We enjoyed iced coffees and put away all the
“valuable stuff” we purchased.
The campground is once again
pretty empty and really quiet except for the road noise of Hwy 31. It was on the late side before we felt ready
for dinner. Nothing fancy, Bill heated
up the grill and cooked a zucchini, 2 bologna burgers, 2 Italian sausages and I
set out the tiny container of store bought potato salad. We finished off the blueberry crisp and were
set for the night!
We enjoyed our show that’s
back on, Chesapeake
Shores and read until we were
both getting droopy and ready to see a nice day come to an end!
