July 8 – Pam and Steve let us
change our hours today so we could leave early.
Bill worked 10 -1 since he traded an hour yesterday with Carl, Carl
worked his last hour. I was still on
until 2. Barbara and Ron stopped by on
their way out around 11 so we had our good-byes for 2 weeks. They were headed to their son’s in Albany and on to Cooperstown then Vermont I think.
It was boring and lonely
today. Pam was busy at her house doing
deposits and balancing so I did a lot of cleaning and some input that she sent
over to me and had a couple of calls.
Bill was showered, fed and loaded
most of the car by the time I got home at 2:15.
I had a quick salad, packed the cooler and helped put the last few
things in the car, including Molly and we left at 2:45. Not bad!
We did stop a couple of times,
once in MA to get gas where it’s cheaper and using our .10 per gallon discount
at Cumberland Farms. We also got their
iced coffees and they were yummy. Any
size for .99. Later we did a bathroom
stop, to be expected after the iced coffee.
Polly called to see where we were and to verify our motel so she could
meet us there. The trip was uneventful
except that I saw a wild turkey along the road and a big ground hog. At least they were alive!
Once we were 1 exit away from
ours I called to let Polly know and she said she was in the parking lot waiting
for us. She was so excited that she
couldn’t wait to see us. We pulled into
the Best Western in Waterville ,
ME at 7:20 and there she
was. It was so good to see her. Although she moved back to ME 7 years ago
she’d been to FL to visit several times but it’s been a few years. I know it meant a lot to her that we came to
visit.
Polly and Kelly |
We all went to a lobster
pound/restaurant for dinner. I had the
best mussels and a small lobster, so good.
We had planned to pay for dinner and were not happy that Polly had
already told the waitress not to let us pay.
It was so sweet of her to buy our dinner. We closed the place down and then went back
to the hotel. Bill went on to the room
to make sure Molly was doing OK and we sat in the lobby and visited and I
showed her wedding photos and photos from my trip with Karen out west and to NY
on my laptop. She didn’t leave until
11:30. The time went so fast. We thought we would come home the same way
and have lunch but since we realized we didn’t have to be home until Saturday
to work at 5 we are going back along the coast.
I invited her to meet us for breakfast and she said she would but had to
take her brother to 2 appts in the morning.
I really hated to say good bye.
You never know at this stage of our lives if it could be our last good
bye.
Bill and Molly were watching TV
which surprised me. Molly LOVED that room. She kept rolling around on the carpet so she
must have smelled other pets in there.
