Jordan's Pond at Acadia |
July 9 – No rush to get up today
but I finally rousted Bill as the breakfast with our room ended at 10. We did have plenty of time and it wasn’t what
we expected. They gave us vouchers for
the restaurant in the hotel so we could have one of the 3 specials or whatever
from the menu and they would charge us only for any overage. Bill had the eggs, toast, sausage and
juice. I went with 2 blueberry (Maine blueberries)
pancakes, crispy bacon and juice. Passed
on the butter and just enough syrup to make them taste good. We only had to pay the tip, so it was a
really nice perk! Plus I had a coupon
from the internet for the room so we did well all around.

Once we loaded the car Bill
realized he no longer had the Cumberland Farms card in his pocket that I gave
him at breakfast. Geez! So we brought Molly out last and drove around
to the front and I went back in the restaurant and asked if they found a card
and she had it. Great! Bill dropped me at Wal-Mart across the street
to get cat litter while he went to top off at Cumberland Farms.
The drive to Bar
Harbor was only about 90 minutes.
I had another internet voucher for a pet friendly hotel but when we
arrived he said they were all taken so my $79 deal would now be $129 per night so
I told him no. Well, I was feeling a
little panic as the rooms here are super pricey. We sat in their lot for a while looking up
other pet friendly hotels. I found 2
that had rooms for tomorrow but not tonight.
Ugh! Finally found one that would
give us AAA discount and their discount for finding them on the net pet
friendly site. It’s a king room with
fridge and microwave. Molly doesn’t like
it as well but she’ll adjust. The room
as a funny smell like dampness. Or
course Bill can’t smell it. The room was
plenty big and clean with extra towels and amenities so it was OK. The gave Molly a plastic water bowl that says
Wonder View Inn with a picture of a moose on it. I’m sure she was impressed.
After we unloaded we headed into
downtown Bar Harbor for lunch at Jordan’s. I had a lobster

roll and Bill had a Canadian
BLT, which is a BLT with Canadian bacon.
We checked out a shop next door then headed to Acadia National Park. We did the drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain and it’s so beautiful looking
out at the harbors, boats, islands and towns.
We stopped so many times as each curve brought another beautiful
view. It was really windy up there and
Bill had to chase our map once. After we
came down we drove the loop tour which runs along the coast at sea level for a
totally different perspective. We saw
the Sandy Beach, which truly is the only actual beach on the whole island. Oh, where Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park
are is Desert Island.
There are quite a few towns/settlements and lots of lobstering. We could see the floats for the traps all
along the coast. We made several stops
at locations that I could get different National Park stamps for my book. I ended up collecting 6 for the day. Some were at various visitor centers but
others were at nature preserves, campgrounds and park run shops.

Jagged rock coast |
We were getting hungry again so
headed on into Bar Harbor and there were so
many people and cars and no place to park that we decided to head away from the
crowd. I found a recommended Lobster
pound on the other side of the island so we headed

there after checking in on
Molly and giving her some dinner. It
was OK. Bill had a crab cake sandwich
that totally surprised me. I went with
steamed mussels that were delicious, since I had my lobster for lunch
today. Since we didn’t over eat we
stopped for ice cream. Now that was
really delicious and we should have asked about the portions before ordering
medium. Small would have been just
fine. It was cooling down fast outside
and I didn’t bring a jacket so we ate in the car then headed back to the
room. Molly had adjusted to her new
room!
We didn’t get home til 8:30 so
after watching “Suits” I got my shower while Bill read. Finally am caught up on typing so can head on
to bed.
So pretty there!
