I wish I could say I took this but I didn't! |
July 4 – The day didn’t start off
bad but the rains finally started around 11.
It was a pretty miserable day for everyone. We didn’t venture out much. I went to the office before the downpour
started to ask Pam if we could make a shift change on Tuesday so we would leave
after work to drive to Maine
to begin our little vacation. We were
able to change to 10 – 2 so we maybe can be on the road by 2:30 and have dinner
with Polly and spend the night in Waterville ,
ME , across the bridge from where
she lives. I sat and visited with Pam
and her cousin Roxanne and Joe once he came in.
The rain stopped long enough for
us to move the grill table under the awning so we could still grill out our
lunch. Bill did brats and bison burgers
and I made broccoli slaw, deviled eggs and bought Bill a small container of
potato salad. We ate about 2 and pretty
much watched old patriotic movies on TV or read until shift time at 5. We were on until 9 and it was pretty
slow. Some kids fought the rain to come
in and play the games. Since the weather
was so bad Bill and Ron cleared out the BINGO area so the duo coming to perform
could set up there and the guests were out in the main hall. The show started at 7. It was a country western girl singing with a
guitarist and they were really good. We
had a good crowd and Steve baked chocolate chip cookies and passed them around
and people played pool while they listened so it looks like everyone that
showed up enjoyed the evening even though they couldn’t have campfires or
fireworks. We got off at 9 and the
entertainment lasted until 10.
Since Bill had his share of
cookies and I had a couple we didn’t make anything for dinner.
