Time for Lake Superior

One last view of the river

June 17 – I woke to the depressing sound of rain!  Thankfully by the time Bill was up and we ate it had stopped so he did his thing with the utilities.  I followed him across town to where we were to get on the interstate and we were able to get fuel at the only truck stop we’ve seen in the area.  We hooked up there in a little drizzle and a lot of mosquitoes and finally got on the road.  We only had 8 miles on the interstate and 130 on one of the flattest, straightest roads I’ve driven in a very long time.  At least it wasn’t barren like in the southwest, but towns were tiny and few and far between.  Mostly a few businesses at an intersection.

Nice corner spot
We arrived at our campground, Munising Tourist Park, right on a bay of Lake Superior, around noon.  We have a nice corner spot and we can see the water from the RV but did

not get a lot on the water.  It’s a strange set up for the utilities.  There are 4 lots using one water pole and the electric is 1 pole for 3 lots.  We think they each have a 50 and 2 30’s, at least that is what ours has.  Bill had recently commented that he didn’t know why he bought such a long hose and this is the second place we’ve really needed that 50’ hose.

After lunch we moseyed into town to the visitor center for Munising and to the Interpretive Center for Picture Rock National Park.  We booked a boat tour for tomorrow to see all of the rock formations that Picture Rock NP is known for.  They had a nice video about the rocks so we known what to expect.  The displays were mostly about the fishing industry in this area.

One range light
We stopped to see the Munising Range Lights.  One is a regular

lighthouse but the other is much smaller and sits higher up on a hill.  We learned the range lights are normally one on the coast and one directly behind it  to provide a “line of sight” for shipped to follow in a straight line.  Unfortunately this pair is not in the US Lighthouse Association so there was no need to pursue a stamp from them.

We drove to the next town, Christmas, where there is another set of range lights, but we couldn’t see/find them.  Once back at the campground we walked down to the water and could see one, so we now know where to look!  The beach has lots of driftwood but not rocky like the other beach areas have been.

Bill washed the front of the RV again and I did a load of laundry and we changed the bed.  I started trying to get my photos downloaded from the phone and camera and once he was finished outside I got busy on dinner.  We had pork chops with corn on the cob and stuffed zucchini.   No leftovers!  I think tomorrow after the boat trip since it’s at 4:30 we will eat out.   We saw a place with Pasties so think that’s where we will go.

After dinner the rain really came on full force.  I feel bad for tent campers!  One couple towing a car on a dolly had to get out in the rain and unhook as this campground doesn’t appear to have any pull through spaces.  The fog rolled in and you can no longer see the water or island.  Not good1

Time to post if I can get service and watch TV if we can get satellite service in bad weather!
