June
9 – Sleep in day! Actually it was a
total leisurely day. After breakfast
Bill did wash the front of the RV so it’s clean and sparkly again and I did a
load of laundry, the first of many for the summer. I worked on the computer some but wasn’t
terribly productive. We showered and
went into “town” which is Delhi
and it’s not too big. We had lunch at
the recommended “Boomer’s” and it was OK but nothing to write home about. Bill had a burger platter and I had a roast
beef po-boy with brown gravy and fries.
It was a lot more bread than roast beef so I tore off part of the bread
and doubled up my beef and it was pretty tasty then. The young lady who took our order was very
nice and joked with us, then later she came into the seating area to deliver
someone’s meal and she was wearing purple house slippers. We had a chuckle over that. Wearing house slippers anywhere other than my
house or yard, maybe next door to my sister’s, is just wrong on every level.
I
saw a sign at the restaurant about a sale on Saturday behind the DONUT shop and
wouldn’t you know as we were driving about just checking out the town we found
the donut shop! Then we noticed there
were no cars there and through the window the display cases were empty, waaa! Well, a lady saw us and opened the walk up
window and said she was closed but had some “leftovers”. I was hoping that meant, maybe, free donuts,
but was thankful that she had one chocolate covered with coconut and sliced
almonds left. Bill picked a huge
cinnamon bun and a foot long glazed donut. Mine was delicious and he had part
of the other 2 and we each will have the rest for breakfast in the AM.
We
stopped at the grocery and picked up some on sale items that we didn’t need and
some that we did. We can’t find
Hillshire Beef Hot Links at home except if we get to a Winn Dixie, so Bill got
2 packages of those along with other “essentials” such as Snapple. I, on the other hand, chose a rutabaga,
considered some Gulf shrimp but didn’t know when I’d cook them and we agreed on
the ice cream pints on sale still for $1.
We each picked 2. We drove around
a bit but couldn’t be long because of the ice cream. It’s a bit of a depressing little town
compared to their awesome state park.
You're never alone if you have a book to read! |
When
we got home it was iced coffee time so we sat outside with our beverages and
books and relaxed and read. Since we
have our longest day (I was wrong earlier) tomorrow, 410 miles and one site
seeing stop, we hooked the car back up to the RV tonight so we can make a fast
getaway in the morning.
I
grilled burgers, brats and hot links, enough for 3 meals so we’re good for a
couple of days. I had stewed up my
rotisserie chicken carcass and a big chicken breast this morning and de-boned
it so that’s ready for chicken and noodles or dumplings soon. I find it works best for us if I plan several
days out so if we have a long day I don’t have to do so much prep.
Ice
cream for dessert!
