June
11 – The reason we stayed on the road late yesterday was to make our
destination today in 2 hours. We were
headed to Cahokia , IL ,
which is directly across the Mississippi River from St. Louis .
Cahokia RV Parque is not a top choice by any means, but we stayed here
several years ago and it has the best location for going to St. Louis and other campgrounds are pretty far out
from the city. We had tickets to see the
Cardinals play the Phillies this afternoon at 1.
So we ate microwavable Jimmy Dean breakfasts (never again), and arrived
in Cahokia at 10:30. We had a pull thru space waiting, unhooked
the car, hooked up the electric and water, settled Molly in for the day and
headed out.

We
drove about 4 miles to the metro next to a casino, still on the east side of
the river, parked for free and took the metro to right in front of the stadium
for a total of $7.50 for the 2 of us, round trip. No parking worries, no getting lost (in a bad
neighborhood), no stress! Bill had
booked the tickets and I didn’t know where they were but we were in right field
in the second row. Great seats EXCEPT it
was hotter than the blazes out! He
claims I tell him not to buy such expensive tickets, but I would have sprung
for shade
today! He had checked the
website about what we could bring in as far as food and drinks. I took our little softsided bag with 2
bottles of water, 3 small bottles of soda and 2 zip-lock bags of ice. In my tote I had a can of Pringles and 2
snack bars. I am SO glad we took enough
to drink as water was $5.50 for a 20 ounce bottle and I didn’t even check what
soda was. Oh, they confiscated the
plastic cup I took to use with our ice and soda. When I went to get our lunch ($9.25 for nachos
and $14.75 for a brat and fries), I asked for a small cup and got it! 10 ounce beers were $9. Glad Bill’s not a drinker!

What a view! |
We
did enjoy the game but only lasted through 6 innings. I was burnt through my shorts on the tops of
my legs. Unbelievable! The nice lady behind us had a hand fan and
she would periodically fan us from behind which was so nice. As we walked down to leave I started feeling
sick and told Bill I needed it sit and kind of was about to plop down and an
employee saw I was in a bit of distress
and took me to some chairs they had by the exit. My face was beet red and a lady working the
exit went and got me a cloth of ice and I sat for a while and got my temp
somewhat back to normal. She was so nice
and seemed very concerned. She asked if
I needed additional attention and when we were leaving she asked if I wanted an
ice pack to take with me. Of course I’ve
had a gallon to drink since we left and will be up in the bathroom all night, but am
fine (just burnt). I know better but we
left in such a hurry I didn’t think about sunscreen or a hat even. Oh, and the
Cardinals were leading when we left!
We
zipped back to the metro and our car was waiting for us. At the RV we re-hydrated AFTER we both got
showers. That made me feel 100%
better! Then I put in 2 loads of laundry
and Bill washed the bugs off the front of the RV.
I
made red beans and rice to go with my brat tonight and I made slaw for Bill
with his hotlink and burger and tomato.
Shortly we’ll have a bit of sweet and call it a day.
