It was a bit cold and windy
June 3 -  Bill wanted to leave by 9 today for Letchworth State Park but I slept terrible last night.  In addition to it being cold and no one got up to turn the heat on, I had a crazy dream about a trip to Europe with my friend Karen. I got up at 8 and went to my chair and slept til 9.  We managed to get on the road just after 10 and it’s about an hour to the park.  It’s considered the “Grand Canyon of the East”.  The park is 1,000 acres in a valley and was donated to the state by William Letchworth. There are 3 falls, Upper, Middle and Lower and lots of hiking trails and scenic overlooks.  It does remind me of the Grand Canyon and the deep canyon walls and the
river at the bottom.  We stopped a number of times and viewed the falls and the canyon.  There is a nice museum near the Letchworth home of Glen Iris.  When he died the home was later turned into an inn as the view from the porch is of the Middle Falls.  The house has been expanded to house a restaurant and more bedrooms upstairs.  We ended up having lunch there and it was excellent and reasonably priced. The property was also originally Seneca Indian land and Letchworth reconstructed a Seneca Tribal House that was in horrible condition and moved it to his land.  He also had the body of Mary Jemison, a white woman captured by the Indians, moved beside the tribal house.  Mary was eventually found and chose to stay with her Indian family of over 70 years.  She had many children and 2 of her grandsons were involved with having her remains moved.  She was revered by the Indians.

I never could get the whole thing
On the way home there was a ridge of wind turbines.  You don’t normally see so many in the east.  They’re more of a western plains thing.

Visiting Letchworth was our only plan for the day.  When we got back Bill vacuumed the truck due to our leaving on Wednesday.  I baked a loaf of bread and make a rhubarb cobbler with the rest of our rhubarb and finished some postcards to mail tomorrow.  We drove over to say goodbye to our co-hosts but they were gone so I left our card and a scrubbie.  Later Bill rode over on his bike and they gave him their card so we think we will hear from them with they winter in Florida.
