Local sites day

July 28 - It was a cold night again!  Brrr!  Everyone was taking a break this morning and the plan was to head out after lunch for some local site seeing.  Bill wasn’t feeling well, so Bruce and Sharon picked me up and off we went.

What a view!

Looking for food!
We went in search of the Coffee Pot Rapids.  Sharon put it the GPS and we ended up on Mr. Toad’s wild ride.  We were on a rutty road in the forest and when it said we had arrived, WE HAD NOT!  So we turned around and went back to the main road and tried GPS on the phone.  It was far more accurate.  It took us to Lower Coffee Pot Campground.  We saw a Sheriff deputy that had passed us on his ATV back in the woods.  The rapids are part of Henry’s Fork River.  We checked out the campground and all agreed it’s not a place we’d stay.  It an old forestry park and the spaces are pretty small and no hookups except maybe electric.  We parked at the end of the trail that goes 2.2 miles along the river to the rapids.  We spoke with a lady and her children that were coming back from the trail after picking huckleberries.  She said the rapids are up there, but it’s quite a walk.  That did not intrigue us so instead we took some nice photos of

the river which was so clean and clear.  There were lots of lovely wild flowers and we took photos of those as well.  We headed back out of the campground and a huge motorhome was checking in and Bruce pulled off the road as far as he could so he could pass us.  Then some doofball pulled up behind us but not off the road and he could clearly see the motorhhome and was waving for us to keep going.  The idiot could not understand that there was no way we could get around the motorhome.  Then the campground host came and moved her car and everything cleared up!

From there we got back on Hwy 20 and took Big Springs Road to find the beginning of the springs.  On the way we turned into the boat launch area and there were vehicles stuck in every nook and cranny.  Bruce let Sharon and I out at the launch as he had no where to park and we saw what we think was an old railroad trestle and now is used for ATVs to

travel back and forth over the springs.  The water was crystal clear and it’s a beautiful spot!

At the very end of the road is where Johnny Sacks cabin is you park and walk down the right said of the water by the

cabin and there’s a small deck.  Right there you can see several places where the springs bubble up and from there it fills the Big Spring and flows on down toward Hwy 20.

That was the end of our adventure today!  Bill was up and feeling better when we got home!
