Entry to the park |
June 4 – I slept pretty
good last night. Bill went out after
breakfast and cleaned the 2 sites. Then
we went out together and weeded. We only
have to weed the gravel sites and not the drive areas. We figure if we do it every 2 weeks it won’t
get out of hand. We just have to keep
the little sprigs out that pop up. We do
weed some of the drive area too if there isn’t much. While we were weeding one site vacated so
Bill raked it while I kept weeding.
Rebecca and Harlan drove
over to tell us we had a big box at the office.
We knew it was the kayak and my video camera packed inside. So we took the Mule and went up to get
it. We got the camera out but will wait
until we are ready to use the kayak to take it out of the box. We put down our grass mat, on the gravel and
Bill staked it down. It seems small but
then we have a larger than normal site.
After lunch I made a small rhubarb crisp for dinner. I was excited to find fresh rhubarb at the
City Market in Pagosa. Made enough
crumbs for another small one in a couple of days. Then I scrubbed my little kitchen floor and
worked on email and bills. Some things
don’t stop when you’re on vacation.
Actually I’m not so sure this classifies as a vacation. Weeding, cleaning and raking, no, that’s not
really a vacation.
Here's one of my hummingbirds |
Out of no where we got a
sudden rain. Then it was rather sporadic
and not much quantity at all. Bill was
getting cabin fever so when it appeared to stop we went for a bike ride around
our loop, then it still looked pretty clear we rode over to Tiffany and did a
loop there. Some of the prairie dogs
were out and a ground squirrel but no sign of their resident rabbits. Xena needed to go out when we got back so she
did her business and Bill took her for a ride around the loop in the Mule. She loves to ride. He rode up to the office just to see if
anything was going on and I checked out the website of the Sky Ute Casino in
Ignacio. They have Wheel of Fortune
slots!!! I actually was looking at the
restaurants and menus. None of the hosts
have been there so no one knew much other that they have a $6.99 special for a
small steak and shrimp.
With the weather we really
couldn’t do much outside so we stayed in and read or listened to classic radio
shows on Sirius. For dinner I made
meatballs from the 2 links of chicken Italian sausage I bought in Albuquerque and simmered them
in Classico sauce that I added some fresh basil to. I cooked some dry tortellini and when it was
close to done I added the leftover tortellini that I didn’t need for the
layered salad the other night. I made
salads and that was dinner.
Once the rain stopped the
winds started. We had strong gusts for several
hours. There was a short reprieve for a
while after dinner so we walked Xena and came home to have the rhubarb
crisp. A guy Bill went to high school
with called and they talked forever, so I went ahead and ate my dessert and
moved on to working on the computer.
There wasn’t anything interesting on TV so we both just read until
bedtime.
