June 8 and 9

June 8 – We had just finished breakfast when Rebecca stopped by to return our key.  She came in and we ended up visiting and then Marion and Jerry pulled up and they came in and everyone was here but Harlan.  Marion wanted to talk to the hosts about us having a 4th of July get together in the big room adjoining the laundry.  He said he’d get the hotdogs and buns and do baked beans and the other 2 couples could do the rest.  He wants to have it the Friday , June 29, before the big holiday week.  That works for everyone.  Rebecca left and we continued to discuss books and authors til they decided they better get back to cleaning their sites.
Even though it was our day off, Bill cleaned the one site.  Then he borrowed Harlan and Rebecca’s ladder and I washed the area of the awning I needed to tape, then cleaned it with alcohol, then ran the tape along.  I needed more as it was about 4 inches short and there are some other spots I need to do.  I also cleaned off some of the package tape from around the window.  Still waiting for it as I didn’t realize it had to be ordered from the factory.

Bill went to the post office and we received our first mail envelope from Kam and our 50 amp electric cord for the RV.    I made a batch of syrup for the hummingbirds and spotted 3 there at one time today.  That was a first!  We also had our first bird on the regular feeder.  I watered plants and filled the hummingbird feeder.
The plan was to take out the kayak after lunch but as luck would have it, it started getting windy and we didn’t want to venture onto the lake in the wind.  So I put wall anchors in one side of the toilet paper holder since there were just 2 screws through the paneling.  I took my drawer out and put more tacks in it so it should be good for a while and I nailed in a piece of molding at the ceiling that was almost down and I nailed up a piece of seam cover above the dinette.  I put one of the ceiling light covers back on that we have both put on once and it continues to fall down, but maybe I got it right this time.

We discussed going out to eat tonight or tomorrow night and Bill opted for tonight.  We went to Ignacio after getting our showers to Smokin Moe’s BBQ.  Kam and Jared had gotten us a gift certificate there and they are not open on weekends.  It was awesome.  Bill ordered an appetizer we did not need of fried pickles but they were really good.  Then he had a platter of brisket and hot links and I had just brisket and we both had sweet potato fries and cole slaw.  We could have shared the meal except maybe for the slaw.  After those pickles I only had 1 piece of my brisket, my texas toast, my slaw and half of my fries.  Bill had over half of his meat, fries and slaw left, so looks likes lunch for tomorrow is set.  Those fries were fresh sweet potatoes and sprinkled with sugar and soooo good.
We stopped so I could get a bottle of Chocovine and go to the grocery next door for tomatoes, lettuce and bananas, then we headed home.  On busy check in nights they like us to be here to make sure no one puts a tent or boat on the grass.  We walked Xena and checked the sites and turned the tickets.  Then later after more arrivals got parked we drove the mule around and did the last 3.  That should be it for the night but you still get sneak in over-nighters.

Maybe we can make it to the lake tomorrow or Sunday.

June 9 – I went to bed about 10 last night which is highly unusual for me, so I was ready to get up earlier that I normally like to.  I decided to bake some muffins from scatch, Corn-Cranberry with Chia seeds.  Very healthy.  You use craisins and the chia seeds give them some crunch.  We had those with a fruit bowl of mango, strawberries and blackberries and Bill had an over easy egg and I had Florentine egg beaters.  After breakfast I made cookies also before it got hot.  I had a marked down pouch of Betty Crocker Pumpkin Spice that I added ginger and raisins too.  Then I bagged up some muffins and cookies and when Bill dropped me off at the laundry I took them over to the other hosts.  I don’t think they do much baking and we don’t need to keep it all here.
Before we left for the laundry Bill was having a fit over how many pair of underwear he brought and where were they?  I really had no idea, as there is only so much room in here for things to be lost in.  So it kinda blew over and after I put the one load in the washer today, I walked past the trash can to go to the hosts’ sites and there were white underwear on top that looked like they had been left in a washer and were stiff and wadded up.  I picked up a pair and under it was a hand towel that I KNEW was ours and I wondered where it was the other day, so I found 3 pair of underwear, the towel and the 2 socks(that were also missing) that I apparently left in the washer on Wednesday and luckily they hadn’t been pitched.  After reading me the riot act I told him he could do the wash and then he wouldn’t have to worry about my incompetency!  Anyway, the mystery was solved!

Molly in "The Hut"
I finally got out Molly’s hut and staked in down in the yard, but by the time we took her out the sun had moved and she was in the sun so Bill moved it to the gravel and didn’t stake it.  She sat and lay in it for an hour and just watched the birds coming and going.  I brought her in just before lunch and as I was making lunch I noticed it was gone and that a big wind gust had blown up.  I told Bill it had blown away and he said he didn’t have any shoes on so I went out and that thing was rolling like a tire across the center lawn being closely followed by a run away beach ball.  I took off after it and found the blanket Bill had put under it and then the wind changed and it went left and finally the wind stopped and so did the hut and the beach ball behind the dumpster.  A little girl was chasing after her ball and I got it for her and her mother came behind her gathering up her flip flops and other items that the wind scattered.  So I put the hut back in the grass and staked it down AGAIN.
Bill said he’d rather we take the kayak out the first time on a weekday when there were fewer boats on the lake, so we’re going to aim at Monday.  Instead, today he only had one site to rake out and we hung our chili/cactus lights up along the edge of our shelter and he ran a cord to them under the mat and under the rocks and since we only had room on that side of the RV for 3 cords, I ran a different cord from the electric box to my cactus, and used an indoor timer I had for it.  Everything came on as planned so we have a bit more light at night and it makes it nicer for people who come by to buy wood.

We road our bikes around our loop and then up to the office this afternoon and we played several games of ring toss, which Bill won.  We sat our chairs in the shade of our tree and read for a while and then we watched the hummingbirds. It was a quiet relaxing afternoon.  We talked to Carole and they are still planning to come camping for a week the end of July or first week of August.  She’s waiting to confirm when their grandson Anthony is getting married as they hope to attend that and come camping.
For dinner I had baked swai and Bill had leftover brisket from last night.  We had steamed broccoli and leftover brown rice pilaf.  Too bad I didn’t make another rhubarb crisp, as I forgot about it when I was in my baking mode this morning.  Instead, after we walked Xena and did our camp check, we read a while and I made blackberry/strawberry parfaits.  They were better for us anyway.
