July 31 – We got on the road
to White River, Yukon, Canada at 9:30 and it took until 3:15 but we lost an
hour with crossing a time zone. It was
143 miles and the road was horrible. It
went from gravel to paved and back to gravel at least 30 times today. There were swells in the road from winter
freezing so there wasn’t much flat road.
We spent a while at the border
crossing as there were several semi trucks ahead of us that slowed down the
crossing. We had no problem at all.
The highlight of the day was
we saw a brown bear right along the road but I was driving and saw it but Bill
didn’t have time to take a photo as we were in traffic and there was no space
to pull off the road. We also saw a
coyote so it was a good wildlife day even if the drive was crappy!
The were the last ones in the
campground but we did get a pull thru so we didn’t have to unhook. Our friends Dave and Donna invited us for
grilled chicken dinner when we went over to deliver a rhubarb crisp I made for
them last night. So we took our leftover
potato salad and she made a tossed salad and we were good to go for dinner.
Some of the neighbors came by
while we were sitting out side their RV and we got in a good amount of visiting
as well. We have been blessed with such
nice people on this trip. Everyone is
looking forward to our next stop, Skagway, as we have 3 nights and there are a
few things on the agenda and some of the guys will go fishing.
The weather has been pretty
nice for most of our driving times. I
sure hope it keeps up. Rain and crappy
roads are just pushing things a bit too far!
The worst thing is continually not having WIFI!
